European Day of Languages08/09/21
On the 26th of September we will be celebrating the European Day of Languages.
During the summer term, year 7, as part of their French studies, enjoyed learning multiple greetings and singing in different languages. To begin with, it was all in aid of embracing the new Curriculum for Wales which aims to nurture global citizens who are naturally inquisitive, knowledgeable and excellent communicators-as well as placing an emphasis on the enjoyment and fun factors of language learning. It is evident that learning languages is an ideal way of fostering these skills.
Therefore, in July, the pupils appeared on the Welsh TV channel S4C's current affairs journal, with the famous Welsh singer Elin Fflur, to appeal for clips from the people of Wales to show how they use languages in their daily lives and work. There is yet time for the parents and friends of the school to send in their clips - don't be shy! Please forward your clips to the school mailbox.
Further to this, and to ensure that the day of Languages is celebrated in style, we invite all the pupils of Key Stage 3 to compete in three competitions during September.
1 - Design a T-shirt Competition to celebrate the Day of Languages, 26th September 2021
(Judge Miss Leah Jones)
2 - Virtual Bake-Off competition - bake a cake from any country and present it virtually, with your own commentary (Judge Mrs Jessica Evans)
3 - A challenge to learn and remember the most ways of saying 'Hello' in different languages in 30 second (judges - the Franch Department)#
The first two of these competitions will close on 17th September for judging durin the following week, and the third will take place during the week beginning September 27th. Full details and rules of competition will be available on Google Classroom from Monday 6th September and the teachers will explain everything!
There may be other surprises in store during that week also - please encourage your child to celebrate and have fun with us. Thank you for your support.
